The principle of mesotherapy is direct deposition of bioactive substances into the mesoderm — the middle skin layer between the epidermis and the subcutaneous fat — bypassing the barrier function of the stratum corneum that prevents topical products from reaching deeper tissue. At the depths used in Mesolift (2–3 mm), the active substances are placed in the superficial dermis, where fibroblasts, collagen fibres and the extracellular matrix reside.
