Chemical Peels

Duration

45 min

Chemical peels at Medest use carefully selected acidic solutions — typically glycolic, lactic, salicylic, TCA, or combination formulations — applied to the skin surface to dissolve the bonds between dead and damaged superficial cells, revealing brighter, more evenly textured skin beneath. MUDr. Vojtková selects the peel concentration and acid type based on individual skin assessment: superficial peels for general brightening and fine line improvement, medium-depth peels for more significant photoageing, hyperpigmentation, and active acne scarring. The treatment is performed in the clinic outpatient setting, takes approximately 45 minutes, and requires a preparation period to condition the skin and minimise side effects.

Chemical peeling is one of the oldest and best-evidenced techniques in aesthetic dermatology. The principle is controlled exfoliation: a precisely buffered acidic solution is applied to the skin, disrupting the protein bonds that hold dead and photodamaged cells to the surface and — at greater concentrations — penetrating into the upper dermis to stimulate fibroblast activity and new collagen formation. At Medest, MUDr. Vojtková evaluates the patient's Fitzpatrick skin type, degree of photodamage, presence of active acne, and sensitivity history to determine the appropriate peel type, concentration, and number of layers. The conditions the clinic lists as indications include fine lines and wrinkles, loss of skin elasticity and radiance, hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone, superficial scarring from acne, and microcystic (comedonal) acne. Superficial peels using alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA) such as glycolic or lactic acid at 20–70 percent concentrations, or beta-hydroxy acids (BHA) such as salicylic acid at 15–30 percent, work within the epidermis. They produce mild exfoliation, brightness, and improved texture with minimal downtime — skin may peel lightly for two to three days. Medium-depth peels using trichloroacetic acid (TCA) at 25–35 percent or the Jessner solution/TCA combination reach the papillary dermis, producing more significant collagen stimulation appropriate for moderate wrinkles, acne scarring, and melasma. Medium-depth peels require a preparation phase of two to four weeks using low-concentration retinoid and bleaching creams to prime the skin and reduce the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, particularly in darker skin types. The in-clinic procedure begins with thorough degreasing of the skin with acetone or alcohol, followed by timed, layered acid application with a brush or gauze. The patient experiences a stinging or burning sensation while the peel is active; a handheld fan provides cooling. The acid is neutralised or timed off after the appropriate contact period. For medium peels, a frosting pattern (white precipitate) indicates the desired penetration depth. Post-peel care requires daily gentle moisturiser application, strict sun protection (SPF 50+), and avoidance of active acids, retinoids, and mechanical exfoliation for seven to fourteen days. Superficial peels can be repeated every four to six weeks; medium peels are typically performed once or twice per year. Chemical peeling at Medest complements the clinic's broader portfolio of regenerative treatments and is often combined with mesotherapy for a skin-brightening programme or used as a preparatory step before PRP to enhance growth factor penetration.
