Platelet-rich plasma — sometimes called the vampire lift — uses a small sample of the client's own blood, spun to concentrate its platelets and growth factors, which is then injected to support skin repair and rejuvenation. Because the preparation is entirely autologous, it is well tolerated and offers a natural route to improving skin quality. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP), also known as the vampire lift, is an autologous blood-derived treatment made up of plasma and a concentrated suspension of the client's own platelets. Because it is obtained from the patient, it is well tolerated. The platelets release growth factors — among them PDGF, TGF, VEGF and EGF — that stimulate fibroblasts to produce collagen, support synthesis of the extracellular matrix and contribute to the regeneration and revitalisation of tissue. At Estetica Clinic a specialist draws a small sample of blood and spins it in a centrifuge, which separates out the blood's components and yields plasma with a higher concentration of platelets and of the platelet-derived growth factors that take part in tissue repair. This concentrated plasma is then injected into the skin. Ageing of the skin is a continuous and unavoidable process that begins after about the age of twenty-five, and the rationale for PRP follows the principle that prevention is better than cure: addressing the early signs of ageing tends to be more effective than waiting until less invasive methods are no longer enough. PRP is associated with increased skin density and firmness, a more even tone, improved blood supply and texture, rebuilding of collagen fibres and softening of shallow wrinkles, so the skin may look fresher and healthier. It can be combined with other aesthetic cosmetology treatments to enhance the rejuvenating effect, and results build over a course of sessions. PRP is not performed in acute viral infection or skin inflammation, cancer, autoimmune disease, clotting disorders or while taking medicines that prolong clotting time; suitability is assessed beforehand.
