Microneedle mesotherapy with the Dermapen works by puncturing the skin with very fine needles to create micro-injuries and pinpoint micro-bleeding. As the tiny vessels are disturbed, platelets are activated and release growth factors that signal the surrounding tissue to repair itself — accelerating the division, development and differentiation of skin cells and stimulating fibroblasts to build new collagen, elastin, hyaluronic acid and other components of the skin's support matrix. The micro-channels also let serums applied during treatment penetrate far more effectively than they would on intact skin. The renewal process continues for several weeks after each session, taking place under a quickly healing surface.
