About this treatment
Anti-wrinkle injections use small, precisely placed doses of botulinum toxin to temporarily reduce how strongly specific facial muscles contract. The toxin blocks the release of acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction, so the treated muscle relaxes and the overlying skin creases less; over the following days dynamic wrinkles such as forehead lines, frown lines and crow's feet may soften. Results are not immediate: the effect typically appears within seven to fourteen days as the muscle relaxes, and it generally lasts around six to eight months before gradually wearing off as nerve endings recover, after which the treatment can be repeated.
