Root canal treatment saves a tooth whose nerve is inflamed or infected by removing the diseased pulp, cleaning and disinfecting the canals, and sealing them. About this treatment

Root canal treatment, or endodontics, treats a tooth in which the inner pulp — the soft tissue carrying the nerve and blood supply — has become inflamed or infected, often through deep decay, a crack or trauma. The aim is to relieve pain and preserve the natural tooth by removing the damaged pulp, shaping and disinfecting the fine canals inside the roots, and filling them to seal the space.
