Porcelain Crown

A dental crown is a custom-made cap that covers a damaged, heavily filled or root-treated tooth to restore its shape, strength and appearance. Temporary crowns protect the tooth while the final restoration is made, and existing crowns can be re-cemented.

A crown is a tooth-shaped restoration that fits over the visible part of a tooth, used when a tooth is too broken down, cracked or heavily filled to be restored with a simple filling, or after root canal treatment when the remaining tooth needs protecting. By fully encasing the tooth, a crown restores its strength, function and shape while blending with the surrounding teeth. At EM Dent treatment usually takes two visits. At the first, the dentist prepares the tooth, takes an impression and fits a temporary crown; the laboratory then makes the definitive crown, which is cemented at the second visit and adjusted so the bite feels comfortable. The clinic offers several materials: all-ceramic crowns give the most lifelike, metal-free result and are well suited to front teeth; porcelain-fused-to-metal and hybrid crowns are hard-wearing options often chosen for back teeth. For teeth that need rebuilding but not a full crown, laboratory-made onlays, inlays and overlays conserve more natural tooth structure. The choice of material is guided by the tooth's position, the amount of remaining structure and appearance, and is agreed at consultation. With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups a well-fitted crown can last many years.
