A dental crown is a custom-made cap that covers a damaged, heavily filled or root-treated tooth to restore its shape, strength and appearance. EM Dent offers all-ceramic crowns for the most natural look, porcelain-fused-to-metal and hybrid crowns, and laboratory-made onlays and inlays for larger restorations. Temporary crowns protect the tooth while the final restoration is made, and existing crowns can be re-cemented.
About this treatment
A crown is a tooth-shaped restoration that fits over the visible part of a tooth, used when a tooth is too broken down, cracked or heavily filled to be restored with a simple filling, or after root canal treatment when the remaining tooth needs protecting. By fully encasing the tooth, a crown restores its strength, function and shape while blending with the surrounding teeth.
At EM Dent treatment usually takes two visits. At the first, the dentist prepares the tooth, takes an impression and fits a temporary crown; the laboratory then makes the definitive crown, which is cemented at the second visit and adjusted so the bite feels comfortable.
