Composite Filling

A composite filling restores a tooth affected by decay, wear or a small fracture using a tooth-coloured resin that bonds directly to the tooth. At EM Dent fillings are placed in a single visit, with the price set by the size of the cavity. Larger breakdowns can be rebuilt with a post where needed. The natural shade of composite makes fillings blend in, including on front teeth.

A filling repairs a tooth where decay, an old failed filling, wear or a small fracture has caused a cavity or loss of tooth structure. Composite (tooth-coloured) filling material is a resin that is bonded to the tooth and built up in layers, then hardened with a curing light and shaped and polished to match the natural tooth — so the repair is both functional and discreet. At EM Dent the dentist first removes any decay and prepares the cavity, numbing the tooth where needed for comfort; for nervous patients and children the clinic can also offer treatment under inhalation sedation. The composite is placed, cured and adjusted so the bite feels natural. Because composite bonds to the tooth, the dentist can often conserve more of the natural structure than with older materials. The fee depends on how much of the tooth needs restoring — from a small cervical (gum-line) repair up to a large multi-surface filling — and where a tooth is badly broken down it can be rebuilt, sometimes with a post for extra support, to provide a foundation for a crown if required. The dentist will advise whether a filling is the right option or whether a larger restoration such as an onlay or crown would be more durable, and will give guidance on keeping the tooth healthy to help the filling last.
