The hygienist performs a thorough supragingival and subgingival cleaning before polishing the tooth surfaces with the AIRFLOW device, which removes staining and biofilm without abrasive contact. The session concludes with fluoride varnish application to strengthen enamel. Regular hygiene sessions every 6–12 months are recommended for all orthodontic patients to maintain oral health during aligner treatment.

AIRFLOW polishing
The EMS AIRFLOW system projects a controlled stream of air, water, and fine erythritol powder onto the tooth surface at low pressure, effectively removing biofilm, plaque, and surface staining from enamel, interdental spaces, and areas around orthodontic attachments without abrasive contact. The method is gentler than traditional rubber-cup polishing and particularly effective at clearing the biofilm layer that harbours bacteria.
