Microneedling

Microneedling (collagen induction therapy) is a well-established procedure in which a motorised pen fitted with fine sterile needles creates thousands of micro-channels in the skin's surface. These controlled micro-injuries trigger the skin's wound-healing cascade — proliferation of fibroblasts, synthesis of new collagen type I and III, and elastin production — leading to progressive skin thickening, firming, and surface smoothing.

At Edwin Lim Medical Aesthetic Clinic, medical microneedling is performed at needle depths and speeds determined by the area being treated and the concern being addressed. Before the procedure, a topical anaesthetic cream is applied for 30–45 minutes to ensure comfort. The treatment itself takes approximately 20–30 minutes depending on the area covered; the face, neck, and décolletage can all be treated. Post-treatment, the skin appears pink to red (similar to a mild sunburn) for 24–48 hours, after which a period of mild flaking may occur as fresh skin emerges.
