Before any product is injected, Dr Lim takes a careful history, assesses the patient's natural lip shape and proportions, and discusses the look they are hoping to achieve. Common requests include overall volume enhancement, definition of the cupid's bow and vermilion border, correction of lip asymmetry, smoothing of perioral lines, and a subtle lip flip using a small amount of botulinum toxin to evert the upper lip. Filler is placed using a combination of needle and cannula techniques. Cannulas significantly reduce bruising and allow filler to be distributed smoothly across the lip body; needles are used for precise border definition. Results are visible immediately, though some patients experience swelling for two to five days. The final result — once swelling settles — lasts approximately nine to twelve months for most HA fillers, and a subtle retouch at six months keeps the result looking fresh. Because hyaluronic acid fillers are fully reversible with hyaluronidase, any result that is not to the patient's liking can be corrected or dissolved.
