Dr Edwin Lim approaches acne medically, meaning he first identifies the predominant type (comedonal, papulopustular, nodulocystic) and potential triggers before recommending in-clinic procedures. For active acne, medical-grade interventions include the Aquapure Medi-Facial with salicylic acid deep cleansing, which reduces comedones and sebum through electroporation and suction. Low-fluence Nd:YAG laser toning selectively heats sebaceous glands and reduces inflammation without significant surface disruption — it is particularly suitable for inflammatory acne in darker skin types. Chemical peels with glycolic, salicylic, or combination acids accelerate cell turnover and reduce comedonal load. Once active acne is controlled, attention turns to scarring. Atrophic ice-pick, boxcar, and rolling scars respond best to the eCO2 fractional CO2 laser, which ablates microcolumns of skin to trigger robust collagen synthesis and contraction of scar tissue.
