About this treatment
Professional dental hygiene removes the calcified plaque (tartar) and bacterial biofilm that home brushing cannot reach — the primary driver of gum inflammation, bleeding, bad breath, and ultimately periodontitis and tooth loss.
The session
The hygienist first assesses gum health and plaque distribution. Ultrasonic scaling vibrates tartar off the tooth surfaces above and just below the gumline. AirFlow air-polishing then sprays a fine jet of water, air and powder to remove embedded surface stains and residual biofilm — gentler on enamel than rubber-cup polishing alone and especially effective for coffee, tea, red wine and tobacco staining.
