Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal targets the pigment in the hair to reduce regrowth over a course of sessions, leaving the skin smoother and lower-maintenance. Laser hair removal works by directing laser energy at the melanin pigment in the hair shaft and follicle. The light is absorbed and converted to heat, which is associated with disabling the follicle's ability to produce new hair. Because hair grows in repeating cycles and the laser is most effective on hairs in their active growth phase, a course of treatments spaced several weeks apart is required to treat each follicle at the right time and achieve a meaningful, lasting reduction. At Dr Wiszniewska each session is preceded by cleansing and, where appropriate, a cooling step for comfort; a single area takes from a few minutes for the upper lip to longer for full legs. The skin may look slightly pink and feel warm for a short time afterwards, and sun exposure and self-tanning should be avoided before and after sessions.
