A tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth that is too damaged, decayed, infected or unstable to be restored, or that is causing crowding or other problems. When a tooth is broken at the gumline, has long or curved roots, or is otherwise difficult to remove, a surgical extraction is performed: the area is numbed and the tooth is removed in sections or after gently releasing the surrounding tissue, then the site is cleaned and, if needed, stitched. The clinic can prepare PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) from a small sample of your own blood and place it in the socket to support natural healing, and a protective surgical dressing is available. Afterwards the dentist gives clear instructions on managing the socket — rest, avoiding disturbance of the clot, and what to eat — and arranges any follow-up. Because losing a tooth leaves a gap that can affect the bite and neighbouring teeth over time, the team will discuss replacement options such as a dental implant or bridge where appropriate, so you can plan ahead.
