Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) produces a detailed three-dimensional image of the teeth, jawbone and surrounding structures using a low-dose dental scanner. It is the key planning tool for implants, surgical extractions, endodontics and joint assessment, giving information a standard 2D X-ray cannot. At Dr Piosik Stomatologia sectional, two-arch and TMJ scans are available and priced by area. The scan is quick and is usually carried out as part of planning a specific treatment.
A CBCT (cone-beam computed tomography) scan is a specialised dental imaging technique that captures the teeth, jaws, sinuses and related structures in three dimensions, allowing the dentist to view anatomy from any angle and take accurate measurements. Compared with a conventional flat X-ray, CBCT reveals bone volume and density, the precise position of nerves and the sinus, the full anatomy of root canals, and the orientation of impacted or unerupted teeth — information that is essential for planning treatment safely and predictably. At Dr Piosik Stomatologia, CBCT underpins much of the clinic's complex work, including implant placement, surgical removal of impacted teeth, microscope endodontics and assessment of the temporomandibular joints. The scan is quick and straightforward: you stand or sit still while the scanner rotates around your head, capturing the images in seconds at a relatively low radiation dose for the diagnostic detail it provides. The clinic offers different scan fields depending on what is being investigated — a sectional scan focused on one area, a two-arch scan covering the full upper and lower teeth, or a dedicated TMJ scan — each priced accordingly, and more familiar 2D images (single, panoramic and cephalometric X-rays) are available where those are sufficient. The dentist reviews the 3D data as part of planning your treatment and will explain the relevant findings. Imaging is requested when it will genuinely inform care, in keeping with using the lowest appropriate radiation exposure, and existing recent scans can often be used where suitable. The scan does not require any special preparation.
