Musculoskeletal MRI on a 3-Tesla Philips Ingenia scanner imaging a single joint or extremity — commonly the knee, shoulder, hip, ankle, wrist, or elbow. The examination evaluates ligaments, tendons, cartilage, menisci, bone marrow, and surrounding soft tissues. Particularly useful for sports injuries, chronic joint pain, and pre-surgical planning.

Musculoskeletal MRI is the primary imaging modality for evaluating joint pathology, offering unmatched soft-tissue contrast for ligaments, tendons, cartilage, and bone marrow that cannot be achieved with X-ray or CT. At 3 Tesla, the improved spatial resolution allows detection of partial-thickness ligament tears, early cartilage degeneration, and subtle bone marrow oedema that may be invisible on lower-field systems. The examination focuses on a single anatomical joint or region per scan. For the knee, this includes assessment of the anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments, medial and lateral menisci, collateral ligaments, articular cartilage, and subchondral bone. For the shoulder, the protocol covers the rotator cuff tendons, labrum, biceps anchor, and acromioclavicular joint. Similar dedicated protocols exist for other joints. At EUR 250, this is the most affordable examination in the Dr. MAGNET price list, reflecting the shorter scan time and focused imaging field. Contrast is rarely needed for musculoskeletal examinations but is available at approximately EUR 130 when requested for suspected infection, tumour characterisation, or post-surgical evaluation. The wide 70 cm bore ensures comfortable positioning even for large patients or when imaging the shoulder in overhead positions.
