The examination detects focal lesions, diffuse organ disease, vascular abnormalities, and lymphadenopathy without radiation exposure. Abdominal MRI provides comprehensive evaluation of solid and hollow abdominal organs using the soft-tissue contrast advantages inherent to magnetic resonance imaging. At 3 Tesla, the improved signal-to-noise ratio enhances detection of small hepatic lesions, pancreatic masses, and renal abnormalities that may be below the resolution threshold of lower-field systems or ultrasound. The standard protocol includes T1 and T2-weighted sequences in multiple planes, diffusion-weighted imaging for cellularity assessment, and fat-suppressed sequences that improve conspicuity of inflammatory and neoplastic processes. The Kramare centre additionally offers MR Livermultiscan, a validated quantitative protocol that measures hepatic proton density fat fraction and iron concentration — useful for monitoring non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and haemochromatosis without biopsy. Contrast-enhanced dynamic imaging using gadolinium is available at approximately EUR 130 additional cost and is typically recommended when characterising indeterminate liver or renal lesions, evaluating suspected pancreatic pathology, or staging known malignancy.
