Thulium Laser Skin Resurfacing

A thulium laser resurfaces the skin to improve texture, fine lines, tone and superficial pigmentation with controlled, relatively gentle ablation. The thulium laser is a fractional resurfacing laser whose wavelength is strongly absorbed by water in the upper layers of the skin, allowing it to remove and renew the superficial skin in a controlled way. By creating many tiny treatment zones, it smooths texture, softens fine lines, brightens a dull complexion and helps even out superficial pigmentation, while the surrounding untreated skin supports faster recovery than older, fully ablative resurfacing. At Dr Luch the skin is cleansed and numbed before treatment, which takes around thirty to forty-five minutes for the face. Afterwards the skin feels warm and looks flushed, with mild swelling and a fine, sandpaper-like texture for a few days as it renews; most people return to normal activities quickly with diligent moisturising and sun protection. Because the benefit builds as the skin remodels, a short course spaced several weeks apart usually gives the best result, with improvement continuing for some weeks afterwards. The laser can be focused on the face alone or extended to the neck and décolleté, areas that often show ageing and sun damage. Strict daily SPF is essential during and after a course, as freshly resurfaced skin is more sensitive to ultraviolet light. The treatment is not suitable over active infection or for certain skin conditions and is avoided in pregnancy; the physician confirms suitability and selects appropriate settings for your skin at consultation.
