Dr Leo Plastic Surgery offers two principal liposuction approaches, selected based on patient anatomy, treatment area, and desired outcome. Power-assisted liposuction (PAL) is the traditional suction-based technique: a cannula connected to a suction device removes fat deposits that are resistant to diet and exercise. It is effective for larger volume reductions across the abdomen, flanks, back, thighs, and arms. VASER liposuction uses low-frequency ultrasound energy to emulsify fat cells before they are aspirated. The selective liquefaction process preserves blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissue — resulting in less bruising, less swelling, and reduced post-operative pain compared to standard liposuction. VASER also induces additional skin tightening over the months following surgery as internal ultrasound stimulates collagen remodelling. It is particularly well suited to delicate areas (neck, inner arms, knees) and to revision liposuction cases where scar tissue complicates the procedure. Both techniques are performed under sedation through 3–4mm skin incisions closed with absorbable sutures — no suture removal required. Bruising typically resolves within 7–10 days, and anti-bruising medication is prescribed to shorten downtime. Custom pressure garments are fitted and worn for approximately 6 weeks post-operatively. Fat harvested during liposuction can be purified and reinjected into the face, breasts, or buttocks via fat transfer, providing natural augmentation without risk of rejection. This combination approach is growing in popularity for patients seeking both volume reduction in one area and natural enhancement in another.
