Microneedling Face

Microneedling at Dr. Jahnke & Colleagues uses the SkinPen, an FDA-cleared automated microneedling device that creates thousands of controlled micro-punctures in the skin at precise, adjustable depths. These micro-injuries trigger the body's wound healing cascade -- inflammation, proliferation, and remodelling -- resulting in new collagen and elastin production that improves skin quality over subsequent weeks and months. The SkinPen allows the practitioner to adjust needle depth from 0.25mm to 2.5mm depending on the treatment area and indication. Shallower depths are used on thin-skinned areas like the forehead and around the eyes, while deeper settings target thicker skin on the cheeks and chin where acne scarring or deep texture irregularities may be present. Before treatment, a topical numbing cream is applied for 20 to 30 minutes to ensure patient comfort. The microneedling session itself takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes for the full face. A hyaluronic acid or growth-factor serum is applied during and immediately after needling to enhance absorption -- the micro-channels created by the needles allow topical products to penetrate far deeper than they would on intact skin. Downtime is typically 1 to 3 days of redness resembling mild sunburn, with some patients experiencing minor swelling and pinpoint bleeding during treatment. Makeup should be avoided for 24 hours. Sun protection is essential for 2 weeks post-treatment. For anti-aging and general skin quality improvement, the clinic recommends 3 to 4 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. For acne scarring, 4 to 6 sessions may be needed. Microneedling is suitable for all skin types (Fitzpatrick I-VI), unlike some laser treatments that carry pigmentation risks on darker skin tones. Microneedling pairs particularly well with PRP (vampire facial) and can be combined with Profhilo or chemical peels in a treatment plan designed by Dr. Jahnke.
