The Diolaze XL features one of the largest treatment spot sizes in its class, allowing the underarm area to be treated in approximately 15 minutes -- significantly faster than older laser systems. The 810nm diode wavelength is the gold standard for laser hair removal because it is optimally absorbed by the melanin in hair follicles while penetrating deep enough to reach the hair bulb and papilla at the base of the follicle. When the laser energy is absorbed, it heats the follicle to the point of thermal damage, disabling its ability to produce new hair. The device's built-in sapphire cooling tip protects the skin surface and improves comfort during treatment. Hair grows in three phases: anagen (active growth), catagen (transition), and telogen (resting). Laser hair removal is only effective during the anagen phase when the hair contains the most melanin and is connected to the follicular structures. Because only a proportion of hairs are in anagen at any given time, multiple sessions are needed to catch all follicles during their active growth phase. For the underarms, the clinic recommends 6 to 8 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart for optimal results. Most patients see a 70-85% permanent hair reduction after completing the full course. Remaining hairs are typically finer and lighter. Annual touch-up sessions may be needed for hormonal hair. The treatment is suitable for skin types I-V (Fitzpatrick scale).
