IPL Pigmentation Face

The IPL Pigmentation treatment at Dr. Jahnke & Colleagues uses the Lumecca device by InMode, one of the most powerful IPL systems available, to target unwanted facial pigmentation. Lumecca delivers optimised broad-spectrum light in the 515-1064nm wavelength range, which is selectively absorbed by melanin (the pigment in sun spots, age spots, and areas of hyperpigmentation) and oxyhemoglobin (the pigment in visible blood vessels). When melanin absorbs the light energy, it heats up and fragments. The fragmented pigment is then processed by the body's immune system and gradually fades over the following 1 to 3 weeks. Treated pigmented lesions typically darken initially (a sign of successful targeting), then crust lightly and flake off, revealing clearer skin beneath. Dr. med. Irina Jahnke assesses each patient's skin type, pigmentation pattern, and depth of pigment during the consultation. Lumecca is most effective on superficial epidermal pigmentation -- sun spots, age spots (solar lentigines), and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Deeper melasma may require a different treatment approach or combination therapy. The treatment takes approximately 30 minutes for the full face. Patients feel a warm snapping sensation during the light pulses. Post-treatment, the skin may appear mildly flushed for a few hours. Strict sun avoidance and SPF 50 protection are essential for at least 2 weeks, as treated skin is more susceptible to UV-induced pigmentation. Many patients see significant improvement after a single Lumecca session -- the device's high peak power allows it to deliver more effective treatment per pulse than older IPL systems. For extensive sun damage or deeper pigmentation, 2 to 3 sessions at 4-week intervals may be recommended. IPL also provides a secondary benefit of stimulating collagen production, contributing to overall skin quality improvement.
