These folds deepen with age due to a combination of mid-face volume loss, skin laxity, and gravity. While nasolabial folds are a natural part of facial anatomy, deep creases can create a tired or aged appearance that many patients wish to soften. The treatment uses a robust, cross-linked hyaluronic acid filler designed for deeper injection in the mid-face. This type of filler has greater lifting capacity than the softer products used for lips, allowing it to support the tissue above the fold and provide structural correction rather than simply filling the crease from within. Dr. med. Irina Jahnke assesses each patient's mid-face volume distribution during the consultation. In some cases, the most effective approach is to restore volume in the cheek area above the fold rather than filling the fold itself directly -- this lifts the overlying tissue and naturally reduces the fold depth. The treatment plan may combine direct fold injection with cheek volume support for optimal results. The procedure takes approximately 30 minutes. A cannula technique is often preferred for this area to minimise bruising and provide even product distribution. The filler contains integrated lidocaine for patient comfort. Mild swelling may persist for 2 to 5 days. Results in this area typically last longer than lip fillers -- 9 to 18 months -- because the mid-face area has less movement than the lips. As with all hyaluronic acid treatments at the practice, the result is fully reversible with hyaluronidase enzyme if needed.
