Irina Jahnke takes a conservative, build-up approach to lip augmentation. The first session typically uses a restrained volume to allow the patient to adjust to the change and assess the result before adding more at a follow-up appointment if desired. This prevents the over-filled appearance that can result from injecting too much product in a single session. The procedure begins with a detailed consultation to discuss the patient's goals -- whether that is subtle volume restoration, enhanced definition, correction of a thin upper lip, or smoothing of vertical lip lines (smoker's lines). Topical anaesthetic cream is applied before treatment to minimise discomfort. The filler product itself contains integrated lidocaine for additional comfort during injection. Injection technique varies by goal: sharp needle injection for precise border definition, cannula technique for volume distribution with reduced bruising risk, or a combination of both. The appointment takes approximately 30 minutes. Mild swelling is common for 2 to 3 days post-treatment and is a normal part of the healing process. Final results are assessed at 2 weeks once swelling has fully resolved. Results last 6 to 12 months depending on the product used, the patient's metabolism, and lip movement patterns. Hyaluronic acid fillers are fully reversible with hyaluronidase enzyme if the patient is unsatisfied with the result.
