Comprehensive acne management and scar treatment using RF microneedling, subcision, fractional laser, chemical peels, and medical facials to clear active breakouts and improve acne scarring, pore size, and skin texture.
Dr Daniel Chang Aesthetic Clinic takes a two-phase approach to acne management: treating active acne first to prevent new scarring, then addressing existing scars with targeted resurfacing and remodelling procedures. For active acne, the clinic uses medical facials with extraction, chemical peels, and light-based therapies to reduce sebum production, eliminate acne-causing bacteria, and accelerate skin cell turnover. Chemical peels (SGD 120–300) using glycolic acid, salicylic acid, or TCA are applied to exfoliate the stratum corneum, unclog pores, and reduce inflammatory acne lesions. A series of monthly peels provides progressive improvement in skin clarity and comedone reduction. For acne scarring, the clinic's most effective treatments are RF microneedling, subcision, and fractional laser. RF microneedling (SGD 400–800 per session) combines mechanical microneedling with targeted radiofrequency energy delivered through gold-tipped insulated needles. This creates controlled micro-injuries that stimulate collagen and elastin remodelling at precise skin depths, significantly improving rolling and boxcar scars, enlarged pores, and skin texture. RF microneedling with coagulating tips can also target sebaceous glands to reduce oil production in acne-prone patients. Subcision (from SGD 300) is a minor surgical procedure targeting tethered acne scars — where fibrous bands tether the depressed scar base to the underlying dermis. A small hypodermic needle is inserted beneath the scar and used to cut the fibrous bands, releasing the tethering and allowing the scar base to rise. Subcision is combined with dermal fillers or PRP to optimise results and prevent re-tethering. It is highly effective for rolling acne scars. Fractional Erbium laser (from SGD 400) ablates precise micro-columns of skin, triggering a wound-healing cascade that produces new collagen and skin remodelling. It is particularly effective for textural improvement in patients with widespread superficial scarring and uneven skin tone. Most acne scar treatment protocols involve multiple modalities applied across 4–8 sessions, customised to the patient's scar types (ice pick, rolling, boxcar) and skin tolerance. A doctor consultation is always performed prior to commencing treatment to create a personalised treatment plan.
