Pigmentation Reduction

Pigmentation reduction uses targeted light energy to address areas of excess melanin — such as sun spots, age spots and patchy discolouration — that make the complexion look uneven. The light is absorbed by the darker pigment and converted to heat, which is associated with breaking the pigment into smaller particles that the skin then clears over the following days, so spots gradually fade and tone evens out.

At Dr Cosmetic the area is cleansed and protective eyewear is worn before the applicator is passed over the skin; many people feel a brief warm or light snapping sensation. Treated spots often look darker for a few days before flaking away, and some redness is normal initially.
