Microneedling (Dermapen 4)

Dermapen 4 microneedling creates controlled micro-channels in the skin to stimulate collagen and elastin, improving texture, fine lines, enlarged pores and the look of acne scarring. A serum ampoule is driven into the skin during treatment for added effect. At Dr Cosmetic it can be done on the face alone or extended to the neck and décolleté, and a short course gives the best results for texture and scarring.

Microneedling with the Dermapen 4 device uses a cluster of fine needles oscillating at high speed to create thousands of precise micro-channels in the skin. These tiny, controlled injuries trigger the body's natural repair response, which is associated with fresh collagen and elastin production that firms the skin and refines its surface over the following weeks. The micro-channels also allow an active serum applied during treatment to penetrate more effectively. At Dr Cosmetic the skin is cleansed and a numbing cream applied before treatment, which takes around thirty to forty-five minutes depending on the area, and includes a serum ampoule. Expect redness similar to mild sunburn for roughly 24–48 hours, after which the skin looks fresher and, over a few weeks, smoother and more even. The treatment may support people with uneven texture, enlarged pores, fine lines and the appearance of mild-to-moderate acne scarring, and can be applied to the face or extended to the neck and décolleté. For texture and scarring a course of around three sessions spaced about four weeks apart is usually recommended, and a LIFT mask can be added. Diligent sun protection afterwards is important. Microneedling is avoided over active acne or infection and in pregnancy; the cosmetologist confirms suitability beforehand.
