Lip modelling uses soft, cross-linked hyaluronic acid filler to enhance the lips' volume, shape and border definition while keeping movement and proportion natural. The session starts with a discussion of what you would like — more hydration and a tidier border, a little extra volume, or correction of asymmetry — after which the surgeon recommends an appropriate amount of product, often starting conservatively for first-time patients. A topical anaesthetic is applied for comfort and most lip fillers also contain lidocaine, so the treatment is generally well tolerated. The gel is placed with a fine needle or cannula and shaped by hand; results are visible immediately, though it is normal for lips to swell for a day or two and for small bruises to appear. The final shape becomes clear within one to two weeks. Hyaluronic acid lip filler is gradually broken down by the body over the following months, so the effect is not permanent and can be refreshed. Because hyaluronic acid can be dissolved with hyaluronidase, the result is adjustable should you wish to change or reverse it.
