PRP/PRF Therapy

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) treatment combined with professional microneedling. A small blood draw is centrifuged to concentrate growth factors, then PRP is infused into the skin via microneedling channels. Addresses acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, and overall skin quality. Each session is described as equivalent to approximately three standard microneedling sessions in terms of tissue stimulation.
PRP skin treatment at Dr. Kolker's practice pairs autologous platelet-rich plasma with professional microneedling, combining two distinct mechanisms of action to achieve enhanced tissue regeneration compared to either treatment alone. Platelet-rich plasma is prepared from a small blood draw (typically 20–30 ml) at the time of treatment: the sample is centrifuged in a calibrated protocol to separate whole blood into its components, concentrating the platelet fraction (which is rich in alpha granules containing growth factors — PDGF, TGF-beta, VEGF, EGF, and others) from the red blood cell and plasma fractions. The resulting PRP concentrate is applied topically to the skin surface. Microneedling then creates thousands of microscopic channels in the epidermal and superficial dermal layers, simultaneously stimulating a wound-healing and collagen-remodelling response and providing conduits for the topically applied PRP to penetrate more deeply than it could through intact skin. The growth factors that enter through these channels amplify the fibroblast activity and angiogenic response triggered by the mechanical needling alone. The clinic describes the combined procedure as providing tissue stimulation equivalent to approximately three standard microneedling sessions in a single appointment — reflecting the synergistic effect of mechanical plus growth-factor stimulation. Clinical targets include post-acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, fine lines and skin laxity, pore size, and general skin luminosity and quality. PRP is entirely autologous, meaning it is derived from the patient's own blood — there is no risk of allergic reaction to a foreign substance. Topical anesthetic cream is applied before the procedure; post-treatment redness and mild swelling typically resolve within 24–48 hours. A series of three to four sessions spaced four to six weeks apart is recommended for significant scarring or texture concerns.
