A surgical extraction removes a wisdom tooth that is impacted, partly erupted or otherwise cannot be taken out by simple means, often because it sits under the gum or against the neighbouring tooth. At Diamante Clinica these cases are planned with imaging and carried out by dentists with oral-surgery experience under local anaesthetic. It suits problematic third molars causing pain, recurrent gum infection, crowding or decay that are difficult to access.
About this treatment
A surgical wisdom-tooth extraction is needed when a third molar cannot be removed by simply loosening and lifting it out — most often because it is impacted (stuck against bone or the adjacent tooth), only partly erupted, or has roots that require the tooth to be sectioned and removed in pieces. At Diamante Clinica the case is assessed with panoramic or CBCT imaging so the dentist can see the position of the roots and their relationship to nearby nerves and the sinus before treatment. The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic; the gum is gently lifted to access the tooth, bone may be carefully removed or the tooth divided to ease it out, and the site is cleaned and stitched as needed.
