Root Canal Treatment (Microscope)

Type

Root Canal

Duration

2 hours

Root-canal treatment removes infected or inflamed tissue from inside a tooth, cleans and disinfects the canals, and seals them to save a tooth that would otherwise be lost. At Diamante Clinica endodontic work is performed under a surgical microscope for magnified visibility of the fine canal anatomy. It suits teeth with deep decay, infection or an abscess where the nerve is affected but the tooth is worth keeping, usually followed by a crown.

Root-canal (endodontic) treatment is used when the soft tissue inside a tooth — the pulp, which contains the nerve and blood supply — becomes infected or irreversibly inflamed, typically through deep decay, a crack or trauma. Left untreated this can cause pain and abscess formation and ultimately the loss of the tooth. The treatment removes the diseased pulp, shapes and disinfects the narrow canals inside the roots, and fills and seals them so the tooth can be kept and restored. At Diamante Clinica endodontics is carried out under a surgical operating microscope, which magnifies and illuminates the inside of the tooth so the dentist can locate and treat the fine, sometimes curved or accessory canals more precisely. Treatment is performed under local anaesthetic and may be completed over one or more visits depending on the tooth and the level of infection. The clinic distinguishes between primary treatment of a tooth that has not been root-filled before (from 1,000 zł) and the more demanding retreatment of a previously treated tooth (from 1,400 zł). Because a root-treated tooth loses some internal structure and can become brittle, a post-and-core build-up and a crown are often recommended afterwards to protect it, quoted separately. Modern microscope-assisted endodontics is associated with high success in retaining the natural tooth; the dentist confirms the prognosis, the likely number of visits and the full restorative plan at assessment.
