About this treatment

A comprehensive hygiene (prophylaxis) visit is the foundation of preventive dental care. Over time, plaque hardens into tartar (calculus) that cannot be removed by brushing and flossing at home, and that build-up — particularly along and below the gumline — is a major driver of gum inflammation, bleeding and, if left, more serious gum disease. Professional cleaning removes these deposits and gives the gums the best chance to stay healthy.

At Diamante Clinica the hygiene visit is performed by a dental physiotherapist and hygienist and combines scaling to remove tartar with polishing to smooth the tooth surfaces and reduce the speed at which new plaque re-forms.
