Contrast-enhanced 3T MR angiography of the cervical (neck) vessels. Evaluates the carotid and vertebral arteries for stenosis, dissection, and atherosclerotic disease.
This contrast-enhanced MR angiography focuses on the extracranial cervical vasculature, including the common, internal, and external carotid arteries and the vertebral arteries from their origins to the skull base. Gadolinium contrast is administered intravenously to produce high-quality angiographic images with excellent vessel-to-background contrast. The examination is primarily indicated for patients with suspected carotid artery stenosis (often discovered via carotid duplex ultrasound), those with vertebrobasilar insufficiency symptoms, patients being screened for arterial dissection after neck trauma or spontaneous dissection, and individuals with known atherosclerotic disease elsewhere who need cervical vascular assessment. At EUR 300 including contrast, this can be combined with intracranial brain angiography for a comprehensive assessment of the entire cerebrovascular supply chain. The radiologist reports on vessel calibre, degree of stenosis (using NASCET or ECST criteria), and any mural abnormalities.
