Native 3T MRI of a single knee joint evaluating menisci, cruciate and collateral ligaments, articular cartilage, and subchondral bone. No referral required.
The knee MRI at Diagnosezentrum Salzburg uses 3 Tesla field strength to achieve high-resolution imaging of the internal knee structures. The protocol includes sagittal proton-density and T2-weighted sequences for meniscal and cruciate ligament assessment, coronal images for collateral ligament evaluation, and axial slices through the patellofemoral compartment. The radiologist systematically evaluates the medial and lateral menisci for tears and degeneration, the anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments for partial or complete disruption, articular cartilage across all three compartments, and the subchondral bone for marrow oedema or occult fractures. The higher signal at 3T is particularly beneficial for cartilage assessment, where subtle surface irregularities and early thinning can be difficult to detect on lower-field systems. As a single-region native scan this examination is priced at EUR 270. It is commonly requested after sports injuries, for chronic knee pain without clear clinical diagnosis, and as pre-operative planning before arthroscopic intervention.
