A five-minute DEXA (dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry) scan that provides gold-standard measurement of total and regional body fat percentage, lean muscle mass distribution, bone mineral density, and visceral fat estimation. Results are reported by a specialist radiologist and delivered as a detailed body composition report.

About this treatment

DEXA (dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry) is considered the gold standard for body composition analysis in both clinical and research settings. The scan uses two low-energy X-ray beams at different energy levels to distinguish between bone mineral content, lean soft tissue, and fat tissue with a precision that consumer-grade methods — such as bioimpedance scales, skinfold callipers, or smart watch sensors — cannot match.

At Dexa Bodyscan Copenhagen, the scan takes approximately five minutes. The client lies on the scanner table while the DEXA arm passes over the full body. The radiation dose is extremely low — comparable to a few hours of natural background radiation and significantly less than a standard chest X-ray. The scan produces a detailed report including total body fat percentage, regional fat distribution (arms, legs, trunk, android/gynoid regions), lean muscle…

This level of detail makes DEXA particularly valuable for individuals tracking body composition changes over time — whether for fitness goals, weight management, athletic performance, or health monitoring. Many clients return for repeat scans at 3-6 month intervals to measure progress objectively. The regional data is especially useful: it can reveal muscle imbalances between left and right sides, identify where fat is being gained or lost, and track…
