Mole Removal

Type

Mole Removal

Duration

30 min

Specialist mole removal by MOH-accredited dermatologists using excision or laser techniques, with histopathological assessment available for suspicious lesions.

Dermatology Associates provides expert mole removal services under the care of specialist dermatologists. Moles (melanocytic naevi) may be removed for cosmetic reasons or because they are suspected to be atypical or malignant. The dermatologist will first assess the lesion clinically — and with dermoscopy where indicated — to determine the appropriate removal method. For cosmetic moles in low-risk locations, laser ablation (CO2 or Er:YAG) offers a quick, low-downtime approach with minimal scarring. For lesions that are raised, pigmented, or show atypical features, surgical excision under local anaesthetic is preferred, allowing the specimen to be sent for histopathological analysis by a certified pathologist. The procedure is typically performed in-clinic at Paragon, Novena, or Farrer Park, with local anaesthesia providing a comfortable experience. Post-procedure care instructions are provided, and follow-up is scheduled to assess wound healing. Patients concerned about changes in existing moles — asymmetry, irregular borders, colour variation, size increase, or bleeding — are encouraged to seek early assessment. The dermatologists at the practice are trained to identify early melanoma and other skin malignancies, making this service clinically important beyond cosmetic benefit. Multiple moles can be assessed and removed in the same visit where clinically appropriate.
