Acne Treatment

Duration

30 min

Specialist medical acne management by consultant dermatologists, covering mild to severe and cystic acne with topical treatments, oral medications including isotretinoin, and procedural options for scarring.

Dermatology & Co offers specialist-level acne management across all severity grades, from mild comedonal acne to severe cystic or nodular disease. Treatment is prescribed and supervised by consultant dermatologists, providing a clinical standard that general practitioners typically cannot match for complex or treatment-resistant acne. For mild acne, topical agents are first-line: benzoyl peroxide to reduce bacterial load and inflammation, topical antibiotics (erythromycin or clindamycin), and vitamin A derivatives including adapalene and tretinoin for comedone resolution. Moderate acne is addressed with oral antibiotics prescribed over several months; for women, oral contraceptives may be incorporated to regulate androgen-driven sebum production. For severe or cystic acne — or cases where scarring risk is high — isotretinoin (a systemic vitamin A derivative) is the most effective option, capable of delivering long-lasting remission by shrinking sebaceous glands and dramatically reducing oil production. Low-dose isotretinoin regimens are also used for persistent oily skin and mild-to-moderate acne unresponsive to other measures. Post-acne scarring is addressed through separate procedural treatments including laser resurfacing and other scar revision techniques. All treatment plans are personalised to the patient's skin type, acne severity, and medical history, with regular follow-up to monitor response and adjust therapy.
