Nd:YAG Vascular Laser (Spider Veins & Hemangiomas)

Type

Laser

Duration

30 min

Laser treatment of facial vascular lesions including spider veins, facial redness, rosacea capillaries and hemangiomas using the Nd:YAG wavelength. The laser selectively heats oxyhaemoglobin inside the target vessels, causing them to coagulate and collapse without damaging surrounding skin. Sclerotherapy (aethoxysklerol injection) is also available for larger or deeper vessels. No anaesthetic is needed for most small lesions. SPF 50+ sunscreen is required for four or more weeks post-treatment to prevent pigmentation during healing.

Facial vascular lesions — telangiectasias (spider veins), diffuse facial redness from rosacea, cherry angiomas and benign hemangiomas — are among the most frequent concerns in aesthetic dermatology. They form when the walls of small dermal blood vessels weaken, dilate or proliferate, making the vessels visible through the skin as fine red or purple lines, diffuse redness or raised marks. Laser treatment using selective photothermolysis targets haemoglobin: the laser energy is preferentially absorbed by oxyhaemoglobin inside the vessel rather than by the surrounding skin. The absorbed energy heats the vessel wall, causing thermal damage to the endothelium; the vessel coagulates and collapses, and is then cleared by the body's normal inflammatory processes over the following two to four weeks. At DermaMedEst the Nd:YAG 1064 nm wavelength is used for vascular lesion treatment. The 1064 nm wavelength has lower melanin absorption compared to shorter wavelengths (such as 532 nm KTP), making it inherently safer across a wider range of skin tones, including tanned or olive complexions common in Czech patients. It penetrates more deeply than shorter vascular wavelengths — an advantage for dermal-depth vessels rather than the most superficial capillaries. The laser is delivered with a handpiece sized to the lesion being treated; for fine spider veins on the nose or cheeks, a narrow spot is passed directly along the vessel; for larger hemangiomas or broader areas of rosacea-driven redness, a wider scanning mode is used. Immediately after treatment, fine vessels may appear darker (a brief purpura response) or slightly swollen; this resolves within one to two weeks as the coagulated vessel is reabsorbed. No anaesthetic cream is required for most small lesions; the treatment is brief and discomfort is described as a series of mild snaps. Larger areas may benefit from topical cream offered by the clinic. One to two sessions clear most facial spider veins and cherry angiomas; larger hemangiomas or denser networks of rosacea capillaries may require two to three sessions. For vessels not well suited to laser — deeper reticular leg veins or telangiectasias too large for direct laser coagulation — DermaMedEst also offers sclerotherapy with aethoxysklerol from 2,500 Kč. This technique injects a sclerosing agent directly into the vessel, causing it to scar shut from within. Aftercare for both modalities includes strict sun protection for four or more weeks to prevent post-inflammatory pigmentation at the treated sites.
