Chemical Peels
Duration
30 min
A chemical peel at Dermafit applies a fruit-acid solution to the skin, which is left on for a few minutes and then neutralised and removed. The acid loosens and sheds the superficial, tired layer of skin so it regenerates with a fresher surface beneath. The treatment is used to rejuvenate the skin, smooth irregularities and small scars, soften fine wrinkles, even out pigmentation and reduce visible signs of ageing. It is most often performed on the face, and the décolleté and the backs of the hands can also be treated. Because Dermafit is a dermatology clinic, the physician selects the peel and assesses the skin type and any pigmentation or lesions before treating, which lowers the risk of an uneven result. A single session is 900 Kč; mild irritation, redness and light flaking can follow for a few days afterwards, and the peel works best as a repeated course rather than a one-off.
A chemical peel is a controlled exfoliation: an acid solution is applied to the skin to dissolve the bonds holding the outermost, often sun-damaged and dull, layer of cells. As that superficial layer sheds, the skin regenerates with a smoother, brighter surface, and the controlled injury stimulates renewal in the layers beneath. Dermafit uses a fruit-acid (alpha-hydroxy-acid) peel, the gentlest and most superficial peel category, which is well suited to general rejuvenation with minimal downtime. The procedure is brief. After the skin is cleansed, the fruit-acid solution is applied and left in place for a few minutes — the physician watches the skin's response — and is then neutralised and removed. There is no need for anaesthetic. At Dermafit the peel is chosen and applied by a dermatology specialist, which is an advantage over salon peels: the doctor matches the acid and strength to the patient's skin type and Fitzpatrick phototype, screens for pigmentation disorders that could worsen with the wrong peel, and reviews any moles or lesions in the treatment field at the same visit. The indications are broad: overall skin rejuvenation, smoothing of surface irregularities and small scars, softening of fine wrinkles, evening of pigmentation and brightening of a dull, ageing complexion. The face is the usual treatment site, while the décolleté and the backs of the hands — two areas that show ageing and sun damage early — can be treated by agreement. Afterwards, mild irritation, redness and light peeling or flaking are normal for a few days as the treated layer sheds and the new surface emerges. Sun protection during this period is important because freshly exfoliated skin is more vulnerable to UV and to post-inflammatory pigmentation. For this reason a chemical peel is best done as a repeated course of several sessions, building the result gradually, rather than as a single treatment; a typical session takes around 30 minutes. Each session is 900 Kč. A peel is generally avoided over active skin infection or inflammation, on recently sun-burnt skin, and during pregnancy for stronger formulations; suitability and timing are confirmed by the physician.
