Botox for hyperhidrosis at Dermafit uses the same botulinum toxin type A to switch off the nerve signals that drive overactive sweat glands. Excessive underarm, palm or sole sweating — the kind that soaks through clothing or makes hands clammy regardless of temperature — is caused by sweat glands being over-stimulated, and the toxin blocks the chemical messenger between nerve and gland so the glands sharply reduce their output at the treated site. The procedure is a series of small intradermal injections spread in a grid across the affected area; for the underarms both sides are treated, and the skin is first numbed with anaesthetic cream for comfort. As a dermatology clinic, Dermafit assesses the cause and extent of sweating before treating. The effect builds over about two weeks and lasts considerably longer than facial botox — typically six to twelve months — after which the treatment can be repeated.
Primary focal hyperhidrosis is excessive sweating that is out of proportion to temperature or physical activity and is driven by overactive eccrine sweat glands rather than any general medical problem. It most often affects the underarms (axillae), the palms of the hands and the soles of the feet, and it can be socially and professionally disabling. Botulinum toxin type A is a well-established second-line treatment when antiperspirants are not enough. The mechanism is the same as for wrinkle treatment but the target is different: instead of relaxing a muscle, the toxin blocks the acetylcholine signal that tells the eccrine sweat glands to secrete. With that signal interrupted, the glands in the treated zone produce far less sweat. At Dermafit the affected area is first mapped, the skin is numbed with topical anaesthetic cream, and the toxin is then delivered as a grid of many small, shallow intradermal injections across the area. For axillary hyperhidrosis both underarms are treated in the same session. Hands and feet can also be treated, although these areas are more sensitive and are arranged by agreement with the doctor. Because Dermafit is a dermatology practice, the physician first confirms that the sweating is primary (localised, idiopathic) rather than secondary to another condition, which is the correct clinical approach before injecting. The effect develops over roughly two weeks as the glands respond, and it is durable: most patients enjoy six to twelve months of markedly reduced sweating before the treatment needs repeating. Bilateral underarm treatment starts from 8,000 Kč, with the toxin itself at 60 Kč per unit; the number of units, and so the final price, depends on the size of the area and is confirmed at consultation. Aftercare is straightforward — patients can return to normal activity quickly — but strenuous exercise, saunas and very hot environments are best avoided for the first day so the toxin settles where it was placed. The treatment is not given during pregnancy or breastfeeding, where there is a known allergy to botulinum toxin, or over an active skin infection.
