Microneedling (Dermaroller)

Type

Microneedling

Duration

45 min

Microneedling at DermaEsthetic uses single-use sterile needle cartridges to create thousands of controlled microchannels through the epidermis and into the dermis, triggering a wound-healing cascade that produces new collagen and elastin. Unlike laser-based remodelling, microneedling does not remove or ablate tissue — it is purely a stimulative microtrauma technique, making it suitable for a broader range of Fitzpatrick skin types including darker complexions where laser carries a higher hyperpigmentation risk. MUDr. Šulcová uses it for wrinkle reduction, facial contouring improvement, hyperpigmentation, rosacea management, acne scars and stretch marks.

Microneedling — also known as collagen induction therapy — works by using a cluster of fine-gauge needles (typically 0.5–2.5 mm in length depending on the target depth) to penetrate the epidermis and reach specified depths in the dermis. At each point of penetration a micro-wound is created; the body's platelet and growth-factor response is activated, triggering a cascade of collagen type I, III and VII synthesis and glycosaminoglycan production. Unlike ablative procedures, the epidermis is not removed — the channels close within hours — but the dermal wound healing continues for weeks to months, progressively thickening and reorganising the extracellular matrix. At DermaEsthetic MUDr. Hana Šulcová selects the needle length based on the depth of the concern being treated: shorter needles (0.5–1 mm) for superficial pigmentation and general texture, medium lengths (1–1.5 mm) for fine wrinkles and rosacea, and deeper settings (1.5–2.5 mm) for acne scars and stretch marks. A medical-grade topical anaesthetic is applied thirty minutes before treatment to minimise discomfort during the deeper passes. Single-use, sterile cartridges are used for every patient — a basic hygiene requirement that ensures no cross-contamination. During the session the microneedle device is moved across the skin in multiple directions to ensure even coverage; the procedure takes twenty to thirty minutes for a full face. Immediately after, the skin is red and slightly swollen — similar in appearance to a moderate sunburn — and may have pin-point micro-bleeding in areas treated at deeper settings. This resolves within 24–48 hours. Over the following three to four weeks the collagen response develops, and visible improvements in skin texture, pore size, scar depth and pigmentation evenness appear progressively. For deeper concerns such as moderate acne scarring, MUDr. Šulcová recommends two to three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart to allow the full collagen-synthesis cycle between treatments. The treatment can also be combined with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) — applied topically and driven into the microchannels — to further enhance the growth factor stimulus. Contraindications include active acne breakouts, open wounds, certain blood-thinning medications, severe rosacea, and keloid-forming skin types. Post-treatment care requires gentle cleansing, avoidance of active ingredients (retinoids, AHAs) for 48 hours, and SPF 50+ for two weeks.
