Otoplasty is surgery that corrects prominent (protruding) ears and reshapes earlobes deformed by earrings, stretchers or injury. At Dermaestet it is performed under local anaesthesia with a permanent result, and the clinic highlights the strong psychological benefit many patients feel afterward. As well as setting back protruding ears, it can repair split or stretched earlobes and modify ears altered by past injury or surgery, restoring a natural, balanced appearance.
Otoplasty is the surgical correction of the shape and position of the ears. Most commonly it addresses prominent ears that stand away from the head — a feature present from childhood that can affect self-confidence — by reshaping the cartilage and setting the ear closer to the head in a natural position. It is also used to correct earlobe deformities, such as lobes split or stretched by heavy earrings or by deliberate stretching ("flesh tunnels"), and to modify ears altered by injuries or previous operations. At Dermaestet the procedure is presented as resolving not only protruding ear shells but also deformities and defects of the earlobes, with a marked psychological effect after the procedure, an overall improvement in appearance, and a permanent result. The operation takes around ninety minutes and is performed under local anaesthesia. For prominent ears, an incision is usually made behind the ear so the scar is hidden in the natural fold, and the cartilage is reshaped and secured; for earlobe repair the damaged tissue is reconstructed. Recovery involves wearing a supportive head dressing or band for a period and avoiding pressure on the ears while they heal, with swelling settling over the following weeks. Otoplasty is priced separately for full ear correction and for earlobe correction. It suits older children and adults bothered by prominent ears, and adults with split, stretched or deformed earlobes, who want a permanent correction; because the result is lasting and the procedure is surgery, suitability and expectations are assessed by the surgeon at the free-if-you-proceed consultation.
