Hyperhidrosis Treatment (Botulinum Toxin)

Type

Botox & Fillers

Duration

15 min

This treatment injects botulinum toxin just beneath the skin to reduce excessive sweating where antiperspirants are not enough — typically the underarms, palms or soles. The toxin temporarily blocks the nerve signals that switch on the sweat glands in the treated area, noticeably cutting dampness, odour and clothing stains. At Dermaestet it is a short, local-anaesthetic procedure performed by the medical team, with results lasting roughly four to twelve months before it is repeated.

Treatment of hyperhidrosis with botulinum toxin targets the localised overactivity of sweat glands. The toxin is injected just under the skin across a grid of points in the affected area, where it temporarily interrupts the nerve signals that trigger the eccrine sweat glands, producing a marked, predictable reduction in sweating in that region without affecting the body's overall temperature regulation. Excessive sweating can be genetic or linked to conditions such as diabetes, thyroid disorders or being overweight, and it can also flare with stress; for many people the treatment means freedom from constant underarm dampness or clammy hands and feet that interfere with work and social life. At Dermaestet the procedure is performed under local numbing and takes only a few minutes — the clinic notes about ten minutes for the application — with little to no downtime so most people return to normal activities the same day. The sweat-reducing effect typically becomes apparent within several days and the clinic reports a result lasting from four up to twelve months, after which the treatment can be repeated as needed. It suits adults with focal hyperhidrosis of the underarms, palms or soles that has not responded sufficiently to topical antiperspirants. Suitability, realistic expectations and contraindications — including pregnancy and breastfeeding — are reviewed at the free-if-you-proceed consultation.
