Blepharoplasty is surgery of the eyelids that corrects excess skin around the eyes, relieving the feeling of heavy, tired eyes and refreshing the look of the upper face. At Dermaestet it is performed under local anaesthesia on the upper or lower lids, with almost imperceptible scars and no need for general anaesthesia. As well as the aesthetic benefit, upper-lid surgery can help functionally where hooded skin affects the field of vision; recovery is straightforward compared with larger procedures.
Blepharoplasty is the surgical correction of the eyelids. With age the thin skin around the eyes loses elasticity and excess skin develops, particularly on the upper lids, where it can hood the eye, and on the lower lids, where puffiness and folds form; this can make the face look tired and, in the case of heavy upper lids, can even encroach on the field of vision. The operation removes the excess skin and, where needed, addresses the underlying fat to restore a more open, rested appearance. At Dermaestet it is described as helping relieve the feeling of heavy eyes and correcting excess skin around the eyes, with the benefits of also helping from a functional point of view, leaving almost imperceptible scars, easing the sensation of heavy eyes and avoiding the need for general anaesthesia. The procedure takes around ninety minutes and is performed under local anaesthesia. Incisions are placed in the natural crease of the upper lid or just below the lash line of the lower lid, so the resulting fine scars are very well hidden; the excess skin is removed and the incisions closed with delicate sutures. Recovery involves some swelling and bruising around the eyes for a week or two, with sutures removed after several days and a refreshed, more open eye appearance as healing completes. Upper-lid blepharoplasty is priced separately from lower-lid surgery, and the two can be combined. The treatment suits adults with hooded or heavy upper lids, or lower-lid puffiness and excess skin, who want a lasting improvement; minor upper-lid hooding can sometimes be addressed non-surgically with Plexr or Tixel instead. Full medical assessment and realistic expectations are discussed at consultation.
