Dermatology Consultation
Duration
20 min
A physician-led skin examination using a dermatoscope — an illuminated magnification tool that reveals subsurface structures invisible to the naked eye — to assess pigmented lesions (moles, nevi) for early signs of malignancy. At DermaClinique Písek, the examination is performed by MUDr. Kateřina Jůzlová, Ph.D., a board-certified dermatovenerologist who can identify the ABCDE patterns (asymmetry, border, colour, diameter, evolution) that indicate risk and recommend timely intervention. Suitable for adults concerned about changing or suspicious moles, or as an annual skin cancer screening appointment.
Dermoscopy (also called dermatoscopy or epiluminescence microscopy) is the clinical gold standard for non-invasive assessment of pigmented skin lesions. The dermatoscope uses polarised or immersion light to bypass surface reflections, revealing the epidermal and upper-dermal architecture — blood vessel patterns, pigment networks, regression structures and other diagnostic features that have a specific relationship to benign vs malignant histology. At DermaClinique Písek, the preventive mole examination is conducted by MUDr. Kateřina Jůzlová, Ph.D., whose background includes eight years of dermatovenerology hospital practice, a Ph.D. in dermatological research and specialist accreditation in corrective dermatology. This scientific background means mole assessments benefit from a clinician trained in both clinical and research methodology. **Who should attend:** The Czech Dermatovenerological Society recommends annual dermoscopy checks for anyone with: more than 50 moles, a family history of melanoma, fair skin that burns easily, previous blistering sunburns, or moles that have recently changed in shape, colour or size. The procedure is also appropriate if you simply want professional reassurance about a mole you can't stop noticing. **What happens during the session:** MUDr. Jůzlová systematically examines all pigmented lesions using the dermatoscope. Each mole is evaluated against established criteria (modified ABCDE rule, dermoscopic pattern analysis). Lesions judged suspicious may be photographed for monitoring over time, and any that require histological confirmation may be recommended for excision. You receive a clear verbal summary and, where relevant, written documentation. **Preparation:** No preparation is required. Come without nail varnish if you want hand/nail lesions assessed. If you have a large number of moles, allow extra time and mention this when booking. **After the appointment:** If all lesions are benign, you leave with peace of mind and a recommended review interval (typically 12 months). Suspicious or borderline lesions may be referred for CO2 laser removal (also available at DermaClinique Písek) or surgical excision, and the removed tissue sent for pathological analysis. **Frequency:** Once per year is standard for adults with risk factors. Those with a clear history and few moles may extend to every 2 years based on doctor recommendation. **Insurance note:** This preventive screening is charged as a self-pay (samoplátce) service at 500 Kč. Medical dermatology consultations for insured patients presenting with symptomatic or newly-appearing lesions are covered by the five health funds accepted by the clinic (VZP, VOZP, ČPZP, OZP, ZP Škoda).
