Hollywood Laser Carbon Peeling is a non-invasive laser treatment combining a carbon layer applied to the face with a Q-switch Nd:YAG laser to exfoliate, tighten pores, control sebum and stimulate collagen. The carbon particles absorb laser energy and vaporise in microseconds, releasing heat that destroys the carbon along with the dead skin cells and debris within the pores. The result: smoother texture, reduced pore visibility, brighter complexion and fewer active breakouts. At DermaClinique Písek, the procedure targets oily, acne-prone or textured skin, and is also effective for mild pigmentation and general skin rejuvenation — without the recovery time of ablative resurfacing.
Hollywood Laser Carbon Peeling — also called Carbon Laser Peel, China Doll Laser or Carbon Facial in different markets — uses the interaction between carbon particles and Q-switch laser energy to accomplish multiple skin-improvement tasks in a single session. The technique is one of the most requested non-ablative rejuvenation procedures for oily and acne-prone skin types. **The physics of carbon laser peeling:** Carbon (in the form of a liquid carbon suspension) has an exceptionally high affinity for laser wavelengths in the near-infrared range — specifically the 1064 nm Nd:YAG wavelength used in Q-switch systems. When applied to the skin, the carbon penetrates into follicle openings and adheres to sebum, dead cells and debris within the pore. On firing, the Q-switch laser delivers extremely high-energy pulses of very short duration (nanoseconds). The carbon absorbs this energy almost instantaneously, vaporising and carrying with it the attached dead cells and sebum. The resulting micro-explosion also generates a photoacoustic shock wave that reaches the mid-dermis, stimulating fibroblasts to produce collagen. **What the treatment achieves:** - **Exfoliation:** Physical removal of dead cells and debris by carbon vaporisation — equivalent to a mechanical peel but more precise and less abrasive - **Pore cleansing and reduction:** Carbon extracts and removes sebum from follicle openings; the heat from the laser tightens the follicle wall - **Acne control:** Reduces P. acnes bacteria colonisation within sebaceous follicles; decreases sebum overproduction; reduces active breakouts over a series - **Pigmentation improvement:** Q-switch energy at 532 nm (optional) can fragment superficial melanin deposits, improving mild post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation - **Collagen stimulation:** Photoacoustic effect in the dermis triggers fibroblast activity → new collagen → improved skin firmness and texture over 4–6 weeks post-treatment **What to expect during the session:** A thin layer of liquid carbon is brushed across the face and allowed to dry for 10 minutes. The doctor applies laser passes over the carbon layer — first a gentle photo-thermal pass (heating the carbon) then the photo-acoustic exfoliation passes. Patients feel gentle warmth and mild snapping sensations. The session takes 40–55 minutes total. The face may appear slightly pink for 1–2 hours post-treatment; this resolves completely, and patients can return to normal activities immediately. **Recommended course:** Three sessions spaced four weeks apart for the primary improvement. Each session builds on the last: progressive collagen stimulation is cumulative over the series. Maintenance once every 2–3 months is typical for those with oily skin or acne tendency. **Suitable skin types:** Hollywood Laser Carbon Peeling is effective on all Fitzpatrick skin types when performed at appropriate settings, as Q-switch parameters can be adjusted by the treating physician. This makes it accessible to patients with darker skin tones where some laser treatments carry higher pigmentation risk. **Contraindications:** Active herpes simplex (cold sore) outbreak, current isotretinoin use (within 6 months), Fitzpatrick type VI skin with aggressive settings, pregnancy. **Aftercare:** Use a gentle, non-comedogenic SPF 30+ daily. Avoid active scrubs, AHA/BHA products and hot environments (sauna, steam) for 48 hours post-treatment.
