Botulinum Toxin — Wrinkle Smoothing

Type

Botox & Fillers

Duration

30 min

Physician-administered botulinum toxin injections that temporarily relax overactive facial muscles driving expression lines on the glabella (frown lines), forehead, crow's feet, upper lip and chin. The refined pharmaceutical-grade botulotoxin is delivered via ultra-fine needles; topical numbing cream is available. Results develop over three to six days post-treatment and typically last three to six months initially, extending to nine to twelve months with repeated sessions. At Derma Medical Clinic the same treatment protocol is applied to hyperhidrosis — excessive sweating of the palms or underarms.

Botulinum toxin works by blocking the presynaptic release of acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction. When a precisely calibrated dose is deposited into a specific facial muscle, the chemical signal that triggers contraction is interrupted: the muscle relaxes, and the skin overlying it stops folding repetitively with each expression. The underlying dermal structure is unaffected; lines soften because the mechanical creasing that reinforces them has been paused. Over the months that follow, as the nerve-muscle signal gradually recovers, the treatment effect wanes naturally without any sudden reversal. At Derma Medical Clinic Ústí nad Labem each botulinum toxin session begins with a physician assessing the patient's facial dynamics: how the forehead lifts, where frown-line muscles engage, the distribution of periorbital creasing when smiling. This mapping guides injection point placement, depth and the dose per muscle. Ultra-fine needles are used throughout; topical numbing cream is applied beforehand for patients who prefer it. The injection sequence itself takes only a few minutes. Patients are advised to remain upright, avoid lying flat, alcohol, saunas and rubbing the treated area for the first four hours to prevent unintended spread of the toxin. Common treatment areas include the glabella (the vertical frown lines between the eyebrows, produced by the corrugator and procerus muscles), the forehead (frontalis muscle, horizontal lines), the lateral canthal lines (crow's feet, orbicularis oculi), upper lip lines, chin bunching and brow shaping. Combinations of areas are often treated in the same session. The full effect becomes visible at ten to fourteen days, at which point a brief follow-up assessment can be arranged. For hyperhidrosis, the same toxin is injected superficially into the sweat glands of the underarms, palms or forehead, blocking the cholinergic stimulus that triggers eccrine sweating. Hyperhidrosis injections provide relief lasting six to twelve months — significantly longer than the cosmetic facial application. Contraindications include pregnancy and breastfeeding, hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation, and neuromuscular transmission disorders such as myasthenia gravis. A full medical history review is conducted at the consultation preceding every treatment.
