PRP Facial (Platelet-Rich Plasma)

Type

PRP/PRF Therapy

Duration

1 hour

Platelet-rich plasma uses a small sample of your own blood, spun to concentrate its platelets and growth factors, which is then injected to support skin repair and rejuvenation. Because it is derived entirely from you, it is well tolerated and a natural option for improving skin quality. Derma Clinic uses an Arthrex system and also offers platelet-rich fibrin (PRF). A short course gives the most noticeable results.

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is a regenerative skin treatment that uses your own blood's healing components. A small sample is drawn and spun in a centrifuge to separate and concentrate the platelets, which are rich in growth factors associated with tissue repair and collagen production. This concentrated plasma is then injected into the skin to support tone, texture and firmness. Derma Clinic uses an Arthrex preparation system and also offers platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), a denser preparation that releases growth factors more slowly. The process — blood draw, preparation and treatment — takes around forty-five to sixty minutes, with numbing cream applied for comfort. Because the material is entirely your own, there is no risk of an allergic reaction to a foreign substance, which makes PRP a popular choice for patients who prefer a natural approach. Expect mild redness or small bruises for a day or two. Results build gradually as collagen remodels over several weeks, so a course of around three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart is recommended, with maintenance once or twice a year. PRP is well suited to dull or tired skin, fine lines and thinner skin on the neck, décolletage and hands, and can be combined with microneedling for a stronger effect. Suitability is assessed at consultation; it is not performed in pregnancy or in certain blood or clotting conditions.
