Tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth that cannot be saved or is causing problems, carried out under local anaesthetic by the clinic's oral surgery team. Straightforward extractions are offered alongside more involved surgical removal of wisdom teeth, including impacted '8's. Where appropriate the clinic uses piezo-surgery for a more tissue-sparing approach, and can discuss replacing the missing tooth with an implant afterwards.

About this treatment

An extraction is the removal of a tooth from its socket in the jaw. It becomes necessary when a tooth is too badly decayed or broken to restore, when severe gum disease has loosened it, or when a tooth — most often a wisdom tooth — is impacted, poorly positioned or repeatedly causing infection. The goal is to remove the tooth as gently as possible while protecting the surrounding bone and soft tissue.
